How much does a Silverado service cost in Australia?
At our Caloundra workshop a Silverado 1500 minor service is a fixed $469, and the HD trucks — 2500HD and 3500HD — are $599. The difference is parts and consumables, not labour rate: the L5P Duramax holds roughly 10 litres of oil and uses heavier-duty filtration than the 6.2-litre petrol V8. Every other job on a Silverado, from transmission fluid to brakes, is quoted individually once we've inspected the truck rather than bundled into a package price.
| Truck | Engine | Minor service |
|---|---|---|
| Silverado 1500 | 5.3L / 6.2L V8 | $469 fixed |
| Silverado 2500HD | 6.6L L5P Duramax | $599 fixed |
| Silverado 3500HD | 6.6L L5P Duramax | $599 fixed |
| Anything else | Brakes, fluids, diagnostics | Quoted before we start |
How often should a Silverado be serviced?
As a working rule, every 12,000 km or 12 months, whichever comes first. GM's oil-life monitor can call it sooner, and it usually will if the truck tows a van, does short suburban trips, or spends time idling in the heat — all normal use on the Sunshine Coast. If you tow regularly, treat the interval as severe-duty and service on time rather than kilometres.
Does the L5P Duramax need a different schedule?
The engine oil interval is similar, but the emissions system changes what matters. We read DPF regeneration history at every service — how often the truck is regenerating, whether cycles are completing, and what soot load looks like — because a Duramax that never gets a decent highway run will show its problems in that data long before a light comes on. DEF quality and consumption get checked at the same time.
What's included in a Silverado minor service?
- Premium Penrite oil to the Silverado's full factory capacity and correct specification
- OEM oil filter, and genuine parts wherever applicable
- Full safety inspection — brakes, steering, suspension, tyres, underbody corrosion
- Factory-level scan-tool health check, including DPF and DEF data on the Duramax
- Driveline, transmission and coolant condition assessed against how you actually use the truck
- Logbook stamped, with a digital record kept on file
Common Silverado problems we see in Australia
- Active Fuel Management / DFM lifter failure on the 5.3 and 6.2 V8, usually where oil changes have been stretched
- 10-speed transmission shudder and harsh shifts once fluid is heat-affected from towing
- L5P DPF and EGR restriction on trucks that only ever do short trips
- CP4 fuel pump wear — worth a fuel system inspection at every service on high-kilometre diesels
- Front-end wear and steering wander, often exaggerated by RHD conversion geometry and larger tyres
- Aircon and cooling performance in Queensland summer heat, especially when towing
Silverado vs RAM servicing: is there a cost difference?
Not meaningfully at our workshop. A Silverado 1500 and a RAM 1500 are both $469 minor, and the HD versions of both are $599. The real cost difference between the two shows up later in ownership, in what each truck typically needs — HEMI lifters and 8HP fluid on the RAM side, DFM lifters and 10-speed fluid on the Silverado side.
You do not need a dealer to keep a Silverado's warranty. Australian Consumer Law protects logbook servicing done by any qualified workshop using manufacturer-spec parts and fluids — which is exactly what we use, and exactly what we document.
Where to get a Silverado serviced on the Sunshine Coast
American Truck Centre is at 46 Regent St, Caloundra, and we only work on full-size American pickups — Silverado, RAM, GMC and Ford F-Series. That means the right hoist ratings, the right oils on the shelf and technicians who see these trucks daily. We service Silverados from Caloundra, Kawana, Maroochydore, Buderim, Nambour, Noosa, Gympie and Caboolture, and regularly see owners travelling in from further west. Call 0495 055 559 to book.
Frequently asked questions
- How much is a Chevrolet Silverado service in Australia?
- A Silverado 1500 minor service is a fixed $469 at American Truck Centre, and the 2500HD and 3500HD are $599. That includes premium Penrite oil to full capacity, an OEM filter, a full inspection, a scan-tool health check and a logbook stamp.
- How often does a Silverado need servicing?
- Every 12,000 km or 12 months, whichever comes first — sooner if the oil-life monitor calls it, or if you tow regularly, do short trips or idle a lot.
- Can you service a Silverado without voiding warranty?
- Yes. Any qualified workshop using manufacturer-spec parts and fluids and stamping the logbook keeps your warranty intact under Australian Consumer Law. A dealer cannot void warranty simply because you serviced elsewhere.
- Do you service the L5P Duramax and its DPF?
- Yes. We read regeneration history, soot load and DEF data at every service, and we handle DPF cleaning, EGR work and emissions diagnostics in-house rather than referring it out.
